María Pilar Royo Grasa


María del Pilar Royo is a Research Fellow at the Department of English and German Philology of the University of Zaragoza, a position she secured in March 2010 after being granted a four-year scholarship by the Science, Technology and University Department of the Aragonese Government (DGA) and after obtaining a national competitive national fellowship (FPU) financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science in October 2010.


She graduated in English Philology at the University of Zaragoza in July 2008, and was subsequently awarded the Extraordinary Degree Award in March 2009. After her graduation, she was selected to work as a Spanish Language Assistant and Teacher at Sevenoaks School (U.K.). In November 2010 she obtained the Master's degree in "Textual and Cultural Studies in English", after defending the MA thesis entitled: "The Ambivalence of the Chiaroscuro: Individual and Transgenerational Trauma in Gail Jones' Sixty Lights". She is currently enrolled in the doctoral programme offered by the University of Zaragoza and is writing her PhD on Australian writer Gail Jones under the supervision of Dr. María Dolores Herrero Granado. Her current interests are contemporary Australian fiction, trauma and postcolonial studies.
