FROM THE AIRPORT OF MADRID OR BARCELONA TO THE TRAIN STATION

Please be aware that travelling from the airport to the train stations in the city center of Madrid or Barcelona can take over an hour in both cases.

Madrid Airport to Madrid Train Station
(Atocha Station)

From the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas Airport to the Atocha-Renfe Train Station (there is another train station, so make sure you go to Atocha) you can:

  • Use the commuter train service to Atocha which departs from Terminal 4 (line C1). Travel time and frequency are both around 30 minutes. Renfe Commuter Train service

If you are flying into another terminal (T1, T2, T3), you can use the shuttle bus, a free bus transport service between all the airport terminals, 24 hours a day. Information on transport between terminals

  • Use the EMT public bus express service, which is available 24 hours. Travel time is about 40 minutes depending on traffic. You can buy your ticket from the driver (5,00 Euros) but they can accept cash only. Additional information is available at the EMT Bus Express website

Barcelona Airport to Barcelona Train Station (Barcelona Sants)

There is a direct train service from Barcelona-El Prat Airport to Sants Train Station. This service (line R2) runs every 30 min and it takes around 25 min to get to Sants Train Station. Terminal 2 and the train station at the airport are connected by a covered footbridge. If you are arriving into Terminal 1 you will need to take a free shuttle bus that connects T1 and T2.

Note: You are entitled to a free train ticket from Madrid airport if you use the commuter train departing from Terminal 4 when travelling on AVE (high speed) and long distance trains to your final destination (Zaragoza). The same applies to the return journey if you have travelled from Zaragoza by train and you then take the commuter train to the airport.

How to obtain a free ticket between Madrid airport and train station In case of trouble, go to the ticket office (you will have to show your train ticket to/from Zaragoza to get a free ticket to Atocha Train Station)

The information above is also valid for journeys from/to Barcelona airport (click on the link above as ticket machines are the same in both cities)

Trains from Madrid and Barcelona to Zaragoza
(Delicias Train Station)

There are train connections to Zaragoza from Barcelona and Madrid train stations. You can travel from both cities to Zaragoza in less than two hours.

The cheapest tariff is Tourist-4M only if 4 people are travelling together. Then it comes P (Promo) and P+ (Promo plus). The former is cheaper because changes and cancellations are not allowed, which you can do if you buy a P+

Additional information on schedules and prices from Renfe website

Buses from Madrid and Barcelona to Zaragoza (Delicias Bus Station)

You can also take a bus from Barcelona or Madrid to Zaragoza. The buses run almost every hour and cover the 300 km distance in 3hours 30min. Visit the Alsa Bus Company website Alsa website for additional information. Buses from Barcelona depart from Barcelona Nord Bus Station but, if you are flying to Madrid, buses to Zaragoza depart from the Airport itself (Terminal 4), so you may find this a convenient option all together. The same goes for the return journey, as you can travel from Zaragoza Delicias to Barajas Airport T4 by bus. Remember that there is a free shuttle bus service connecting all airport terminals (see above).
